Chilkoot Trail Hike
August 11-14, 2017

Important Change!!!
We changed our departure date from the evening of Thursday, August 10 to the morning of Friday, August 11.

This means we will not camp at the trailhead on Thursday night. Instead we'll drive out early Friday morning and start the hike right away.

Questions/Answers for Parents

Q: Is transportation provided?
A: Absolutely. We'll meet at the church and leave with the church van (time TBA). Once the hike is done we will drop youth back off at the church (or home).

Q: Is it safe to drink stream water on the Chilkoot?
A: Many people do (from fast flowing streams), but it is still recommended that youth purify their water.

Q: What about bears?
A: It is not uncommon for hikers to come across a bear on the Chilkoot. As an extra precaution we will be bringing along bear bells/spray.

Q: How much will this cost?
A: There will be a $40 registration fee (charged by Park's Canada). The Church will cover the cost of food, fuel, equipment, etc...

Q: How many adults will be going?
A: At least two. Sarkis Hajian will be leading the Youth Group over the trail (having done it several times) and will be assisted by a female leader.

Q: What will you be eating?
A: Dried fruit, veggies, bread/pepperoni/cheese, rice, pasta, eggs... that sort of thing. We'll also have snacks.

Q: What does my youth need to pack?
A: See right column! Please leave a little extra room for items the church will be providing (cookware, food, tents).
